The tower built by the Romans in the 2nd c (restored in 18th c) is the oldest functioning lighthouse in the world. So what do a couple of hikers do when they want to tour the city. Of course, walk the magnificent 15km seaside promenade. It is also known as the City of Crystal because the windows along the shoreline reflect so much sunlight they can be seen for miles out to sea.
